how do i tell if the big ends are going

 

Noise, slight rattle on part throttle at about 3 grand. Keep going and it will be very apparent!

Was on mine anyhow

 

its only a very slight noise and i have to be in front of the car to hear it and cant hear it at all driving. its not there all the time. i cant describe the noise

 

Hmm, i doubt it very much by the sounds of that then....might be piston slap??

 

is there any way i could check that other than takin the heads off

 

maybe hydraulic lifters (if you have them) mine does it every now and them for some reason

 

whats the car? what year? sounds like piston slap to me

 

its a 94 wrx if it was pston slap woulndn't it be there all the time i havent heard it at all today

i dont think its a heat shield its no that kind of noise

 

**** got me worried then. i get a horrible rattle from 1st to second in slow moving traffic. im hinking a heat shield for me, god damn it it better not be big ends... pooo.

 

does it sound like this? piston slap isnt there all the time, goes when warm and some times not there at all when started first thing in the morning.

Although to be fair i havent really herd,close up,big end failure.

 

Mine does that when I pull away slowly and I put it down to a heatshield

 

no it doesnt sound like that think it is the big ends it got louder a bit a while ago but its not there all the time

 

is there oil in it?

 

mine sounded like your 2 weeks ago ever such a small almost un noticable rattle... today it went from something you could only hear on the odd ocasion very quiet to this... and i wasnt even ragging it it was a short trip to work approx 1 mile wasnt there when i drove in... came out to go home... OH ****! thats what i heard the engine doing!... and your clip was probably a little worse than mine 2 weeks ago but vey simmilar only on certain revs....
