Default boost controller fitting.?

hi, I'm thinking about getting a boost controller, but the only thing putting me off is the fitting. Are they quite easy to fit cos I'm rubbish at soldering and I'll have very little money left to get it fitted at a garage. or shall I just save up a bit more for a re-map and get them to up the boost at the ecu.?
thanks

P.S. I don't like the Dawes things, I just don't trust them.
