What other mods have you done to the car?
I take it when you mean a built engine that its all forged gucci parts?
If so, gearbox, clutch, brakes and anything else needed to cope with the much higher power your after before you take your next step

if you mean standard as to a TD04 ?? the performance difference is friggin huge !!! but there is loads of parts needed to support even the 20g turbo !! and its virtually a guaranteed gearbox killer

Everything was upgraded drive shafts ,gearbox gears, forged pistons, paulter rods, acl racing bearings, cometic head gasket. willwood 6 pot fronts 4 pot rears, ohlins ,samco intake, sus filter, zero sports headers ,up pipe, 3 inch decat exhaust, 740 cc injectors, aeromotive external fuel pump, aeromotive regulator, SS braided lines, custom fuel rails. I think everything is in place so I can just up grade the turbo and intake/ exhaust if I have to.
the car is a 1997 sti V3.

The 20g is not laggy at all just not quite fast enough

my 20G from Andy F is fine, (370HP) not laggy as people say they are? gearbox killer guaranteed??

If heard this so many times now, my 03WRX has the standard 5 speed box with no problems what so ever, also speak with Ninnybobs who runs one of these turbo's (18G) still with his standard WRX box for a few years now i beleive with 400HP.

I suppose its all down to the abuse it gets and the particular driver at the end of the day but i would have no hesitation in reccomending the turbo to anyone wishing to acheive the circa 400HP mark with associated mods.

also Its plenty fast enough!

tHATS GREAT, THANKS FOR THIS, IM LOOKING AT AN 18G BUT CANT SEEM TO SOURCE ONE, THE 20G IS THE OTHER OPTION BUT IVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE 18G IS BETTER FOR DAILY USE ETC. CAN THE TURBO BE RUN WITHOUT ECU UPGRADE UNTIL IVE SAVED A FEW MORE PENNYS?

AndyF sells 18g's
www.andyforrestperformance.com

I run a 380/400 bhp x 360 lbft ish 2 litre on a 20g and a stock Sti v3 trans with semi slicks in competition and all is well over the last 3 years of abuse.
It will break traction in the dry at speed, and i think this saves the box.

Listen to it:

Thinking about an 18g for better mid-range though.

Graham.
