Default filling the oil filter?

i am gonna change the oil and the filter today. i remember recently someone mentioning, filling the new oil filter before screwing it on is this true? if it is how am i supposed to fill it? just pour some in through the holes?

Yes, just stand the oil filter upside down, and slowly pour the oil in. It will appear to fill very quicky, but it takes a good 5 mins for the filter to fully absorb the oil. Just keep topping up until it won't take anymore.

I used to do this on my old bangers. It takes nothing to do, and even with all the annoying scaremongering that you get on here, why not do it?
After all its in your hand anyway. Pre-fill it! lol

I do this as it only takes a few mins (ideal opportunity whilst oil draining), however someone recently pointed out that as the filter is screwed onto the underside of sump (ie vertically) it should prefill when you refill the engine with oil..??!!

Any thoughts on this theory..?

Its not on the sump though. Its under the oil pump beside the sump.

filling the oil filter and disconnection of the crank sensor to do an oil change is a total waist of time.

i have been doing oil changes on subarus for years and have never had any problems changing the oil like any other car.
