Default Cleaning Idle control valve when off the Car

Hi all. I've had to order a replacement idle control valve as mine has finally had it Didn't fancy paying for a new one so I've bought a second hand one. I thought being as it is not fitted yet it might be a good idea to clean it out first. I would be grateful if someone could tell me the best way to go about it and whats the best thing to use? I've cleaned mine out before when it was on the car with carb cleaner down the intake pipe, but their is no posts on when its off the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Spray with carb or brake cleaner.

im sure this is a really stupid question but where is the idle control valve on the engine?? (sorry to hijack thread).
I would use brake cleaner if it was mine. I used to use that to clean up all the parts on my previous cars/bikes and works brilliantly

RH side of inlet manifold just infront of the intercooler.

use Carb cleaner, shifts all the varnish and carbon .
