Welcome to SN and Scooby ownership!

How much is the insurance costing you???? Please say it's not insured in your parents name with you as a named driver?

If it's a WRX 300 with PPP, as opposed to one with just Prodrive styling, then it'll be around 1.2 bar I believe, they run 0.9 bar as std. I stand to be corrected though!

The best moification you can do -and I don't mean to be patronising- is to you in the first instance: get some advance driver training and learn how and, most importantly, when to use the performance. If you think you can put your foot down everywhere and the car will save you, it'll all end in tears!

I'd look into the insurance before considering any other mods, it must be high enough already, and will only go up when you start modding!! Also, you should get used to the car as std before you modify it so you can have constructive input into how you'd like it to change.

Leave the power well alone for the time being; it'll be quite quick enough for you methinks! Perhaps a good geometry set up/decent exhaust backbox would be a good starting points and shouldn't make the insurance companies have kittens! You MUST inform the insurance of ANY changes you make to the car, or you might find yourself without cover!! Also, make sure you service the car exactly according to Subaru's schedule, these cars need looking after and failure to do so means BIG bills!!

Happy motoring and please be careful!!!!

Agree with Ns04

I'm 22 with a 2002 sti type-uk

insurance under 1800 fully comp.

Done exactly what Ns04 said enjoying the power as it is and gaining a sense of driving a car with a lot of power. or what seems a lot of power for me.

Is your insurance fully comp and whats your annual milage set at?

Everyone has overlooked one detail - maybe he's an 18 year old who has made plenty of his own money. That way it doesn't matter one iota how much his insurance is and therefore he couldn't care less whether modding the car increases his annual premium.

Just a thought.

Peronally I'd go for a full decat and a remap - should get you upwards of 280bhp.

You could also go for a VF28 and an STi intercooler and you should get up near the 300 mark (anyone confirm?) - you may want to consider an uprated fuel pump too with these mods.

If I'd had 280bhp on my first car I wouldn't be here now to tell the tale !
(although to be sure I'm not sure a Vauxhall Chevette could have coped with the increase from it's standard 56bhp in any case !! ).

Braided brake hoses and Motul 5.1 Brake Fluid might be an idea so the lad can get some feel from the brakes when things hot up !

The boost will be increased with the remap, should go from 0.9bar to about 1.25bar, which will peak at around 1.33bar from time to time.

Some good advice, but before any mods check with your insurance company whether they will cover you with the mods. I think you may struggle to get the cover.

Otherwise depending on budget, you could just get a manual boost controller for about £30 ish quid and use it to up boost to about 1 bar this will give you a nice little gain and probably improve turbo response as well.
For about a grand you could get a sports decat downpipe, 2nd hand decat centre and backbox, new panel filter (think green are good ones) and a remap (maybe a uprated fuel pump as well) with that you should easily get 280bhp but a much more responsive car

He's got a loan for the car mate, so I'm guessing he's poor like most of the rest of us now he's got a Scooby!
Anyway, It matters, because they might not be prepared to cover him with mods at his age!

Don't forget ported headers and uprated induction hoses.
