code 22 knock sensor
Have been havin intermittend cel warnings ( getting more often in the last couple of weeks ) , start car no cel, drive for a while no cell no problems, randomly after minimum of 10-20mins cel comes on ( solid ) not flashing, performance deteriorates ( or this could be my imagination ) continue to drive eventually goes away , sometimes after giving it some hard acceleration but not always..
have followed the ecu error code checking procedure & its giving me a 22 which I think is a knock sensor ? what exactly is a knock sensor & how much is one likely to cost me ? or does this error mean the ecu has detected knock & is compensating for it ?
oh sorry by the way its a 1995 WRX JDM wagon & is totally standard.
should I panic or is ok to drive like this ? cel goes away every time ( so far ) if you stop engine & restart.
thanks guys & girls,
Steve

update :-
Cel is now on permanently, code is still 22 , this sensor is under the intercooler isnt it? ill check it out tonight, hopefully a connector has come loose or something obvious like that.
Has anyone any other ideas ?

knock knock or not ??
OK checked sensor, its there & tight, wiring looks ok too , I take it for resistance test its 560k across wire to engine block ? if so thats OK too.
can someone please clear up the question as to whether this light comes on to tell of knock actually occuring while driving or whether its a sensor malfunction warning light ? or does it do both ?
take it my best option would be to buy a sensor & hope that fixes the problem, should I try retesting the sensor after heating it up as well ?
cel has become intermittent again as opposed to permanent which I guess is a good thing
probably should sort this out properly before modding my ECU ( see GB ESL )

it is either detting lots and ecu therefore thinks the knock sensor must be broken.. or the knock sensor is broken and is giving values out of range..
I'd get it checked with det cans to make sure it is not actually detting and replace the sensor if no det.

I had the same, I replaced mine and everything has been okay since, Mine wasn't detting as no activity on knock link, £56 from your nearest dealer (My99) but talk about a b4stard to replace and I've got a FMIC which should of made things easier. Getting it off was easy but putting the new one back on was a really tricky, had to disconnect some pipes and fiddle around as I didn't have an angled socket extention,
