Sounds like the syncromesh is knackered.
Although I have heard a rumour about jap's putting very thick gear oil in their boxes, however I do not trust the source of that info.

Castrol syntrax gearbox oil quite often fixes the problem do a search and see what people say , does sound like syncro mesh is on its way out but syntrax may help worked for me and many others .

does sound like the cones on the syncro..there are gear oil treatments we use in work that, with an oil change, work surprisingly well. I can get the name of the stuff monday if you'd like.
