walbro fuel pump

The Walbro pump replaces the O/E and is accessed through a cover on top of the fuel tank. It sits submerged (partially as the tank drains) in the fuel tank on an assembly which also carries the fuel return and guage sender.
It provides about 30% more fuel flow and is advisable when substantial modifications which will require more fuel have been undertaken.
In time as the car ages the effectiveness of the O/E pump will deteriorate in any case.
225 lph Walbros with fitting kits are available for around £90 inc postage. 341 for Classic and 342 for New Age. Fitting takes about an hour, less if you have done it before.

they are a worthwhile mod especially for £40, there is a possibility that it may cause slight overfuelling by overpowering your fuel reg but shouldnt do really.
If you do fit it and the kit is complete with the sock etc, dont use the walbro sock use the original subaru one.

I had a walbro 255 fitted to my 94 wrx about 3 months back. Fuel consumption isnt really any different as my understanding is thats regulated by ECU anyhow?
Only good thing i did notice which made it worthwhile is that mine was tailing off a little higher round the revs before i think due to old pump not putting enough fuel through - with the new pump though , much better and doesnt lose power at high revs as quick

Trying to remember which way around this goes.
One of the socks is a bit bigger than the other (think its the walbro) doing a search on here for fitting a walbro will tell you the exact reason.

TBH when I changed mine I couldn't see any real reason not to fit the Walbro one, but I retained the Subaru one anyway so that's that. IIRC the Walbro was a bit smaller. But then it was actually clean as well...

j555hks: Chances are your car is fine with the O/E pump. You have relatively low mileage and modest mods so there is no big extra fuel requirement.
Using an LM1 Wide Band AFR or similar, I would check the readings on the road.
If the AFRs are OK I would stick with the O/E pump for now but if for any reason the AFR was not rich enough at full boost and higher up the rev range I would opt for the Walbro.
Expect fuel consumption to increase marginally with the Walbro in like for like situations.
