Default How do I tell if its a TD05?

I'm trying to findout which turbo I have on my 93 k-plate WRX. I have removed the cooling sheath from around the turbo and was expecting to see some markings for either TD05 or TD04 but I can't see any. Where should I be looking? and am I looking for the right thing? I want to upgrade my ecu or maybe remap but need to know which turbo I have first.

It will be stamped on the bottom of the aluminium compressor cover.

If it's a WRX saloon then it should have a TD05 as standard - Wagons were fitted with TD04s

ok thanks! I'd just assumbed it would be stamped on the turbo somewhere. So by aluminium compressor cover do you mean the cover that directs air down to the turbo from the bonnet scoop?

The compressor cover is on the front of the turbo. Compressor = coldside and turbine = hotside. Compressor blows air into the engine and is driven by the turbine which is spun by the flow of hot exhaust gases.

You can see the ID plate on the VF29 below. Although it's an IHI turbo rather than a Mitsubishi it should look similar.

Ok thanks for your help! I take it that as its on the bottom of the compressor housing its only visible from underneath the car then. I'll have to wait till I get a chance to get the car over my mates pit again in that case.

Ok, TD05 (front entry modified) on the right. You can see where the ID is scribed in on the bottom left corner. I wouldn't imagine you'd be able to see **** all from underneath the car.
