Default what ECU do i have?

When I bought the car the seller told me it had a type two ECU, what exactly does that mean in terms of performance? and how do i find out for sure what ECU it is(ie where do i find it and how do i tell what ECU it is)

I have read a few posts and it seems peeps can change their ecus for some sort of performance gain, being from German cars I never heard of this, so can someone please enlighten me or point me in the right thread direction?
cheers

is there any way you can get access to the ECU and copy over any numbers you see imprinted on it?

thats the only way anybody can really help.

A 6K came out of a WRX STI Version 2. Not really suitable for your car; unless its a 1996 V2 STI Saloon.

its a '92 wrx as far as i can tell, it runs well, very in fact I thought the car was supposed to be about 220 bhp(when new of course) but it feels much quicker than my sierra which was about 220, so can i assume that someone has simply put this in, as the airbox is standard, it still had the original fuel filter on it when i bought it, and the exhaust still has two cats.

the car runs fine though, I'm getting aroud 200 miles to a tank, the boost gauge shows it running at 1 bar.
so will putting a standard ecu on should make the car perform better?

A MY 93 car was rated at 240PS; Id swap it for a Z4 out of a MY95/96 car which will see 260PS.

A 6K has a higher rev limit and more agressive ignition advance than a Z4; Id be very careful if I were you.
