Question Anyone using an APS SR40 on a 2.5L block

Is anyone using the SR40 APS turbo on sti block? I'm about to have my motor remapped on thurs at scoobyclinic and wonder what bhp the turbo is likely to kick out. Adam at the moment seems to think the turbo will limit the power to around 380 bhp! I'm hoping with all my mods (lots inc exhaust, FMIC, water injection, piper 285 cams) she'll do more than that.

about what adam has advised....APS turbos seem generally overpriced for their abilities...you would be better off with a TD06-49. The SR40 will struggle to get to 400bhp (even though its advertised as a 440bhp turbo)

the SR40 probably isnt big enough for the 2.5 engine anyway, the SR55 would have been a better choice. I think the SR40 would be on a par with my MD195, and it runs out of juice above 6krpm due to the extra capacity of the engine.

I know the SR40 is a little small for the 2.5L but they says its for modified 2 and 2.2L engines. I bought the turbo before I went down the 2.5L route so stuck with it for now.

I'd still expect more than 380bhp with all the other mods and the fuel (98 ron plus toluene) and the piper 285 profile cams.

possibly, but if the turbo is the bottle neck then it will only make what it will make, irrespective of engine displacement....for example, my turbo will make around 370 on my 2.5, and it will also make only 370 on the 2.0 as it physically cant push any more air.

The torque curve will be different though....but it will run out of steam earlier...it seems that youve got an interesting choice of mods, but the SR40 is the weak link.

Cool

Dam! Was hoping the piper cams would make up for what the SR40 lacked...will have to wait and see.

Yeh, she's a bit of a beast but wont be if Scoobyclinic can only manage 380 bhp - wont be happy with that. I'm sure the turbo will do more than that with the samco inlet hose, cold air induction kit with massive K&N filter in wing, complete stainless exhaust system and single sports cat, etc, etc. I've had 1.9 bar as a spike reading before when she was a 2L and it snaked up the road (in the dry) was massive smiles time) but not clutch happy time!

like i say though its only a good as the weakest component....

i am in the same boat....most of the components are great, and capable of fairly big power, but the turbo isnt (which at the time is what i wanted/needed)

Wink

I'll agree with "heartache" - I'm missing my motor!!! Sad but true.

Wish I could (and I would) but just cant afford to buy another turbo and have it fitted right now. Gutted really but must get car in a running state to pass MOT etc so I can then use her from end of march 2007 once points off license.

True I'm sorry to say (hear me cry), she has to go off the road (might spend the weekend taking my m8s out for a spin on selected back roads) due to funding (CC debts) and MOT due and points on license. Will tuck her away till I'm ready and can afford to put the £50 of fuel in the tank!!
