Front mount without a doubt, if you don't mind the mucking about to get it fitted and the way your engine bay will look.

Front Mount are harder to get in the car...though there are people here who have acvieved those power figures on larger top mounts...

You will have to cut bits from your car to install the fmic...

i swapped my big aps tmic for a aps frontmount when going from 320 to 386 bhp

would have saved money if I went for the front mount first

I'd go for front mount, but they can give more lag with all that extra distance the air has to travel.

tmic will give a good drivable car and still have the chance of keeping your gearbox intact, but since yours is an older car i dont think there is many good tmic's for you so you are better off going with a fmic

I've been there and done that.
If you intend to go beyond 350 bhp simply do the FMIC.

I did a front mount on my old classic for the sake of it really....to see what all the fuss was...and yes it helped allot...

They also do not cost as much as they did 2 years ago!!!

Do you find you get much benefit from the water spray Graham? I use mine for sprints, so similar usage to yours.

Thanks,
Simon

Difficult to tell as there are so many other driver-related variables as you know!

Facts are that the colder you can get/keep the compressed air the better, so it can only help IF the water is atomised.

All of us who do use it (including the EVO) add ice cubes 5 mins before the runs so the water is at about 5 Deg C to start with.
I don't bother with it on the road, only for the hillclimbs.

If you can, do it.
Mine is a totally manual system, switch on after the 64 foor marker from the start, and off after the finish line. A 60 second climb takes 2 litres of water.

Would there be any difference in power by just swapping the top mount for a front mount on an early classic (with a remap)? If so what sort of power boost would we be talking?
Is 300BHP acheivable with just a front mount, full decat and panel filter on a non sti?

The FMIC will not really give more power, but what it WILL do is allow you to 'hold-on' to what you have for a longer time as it keeps the charge air temperature lower for longer.

If you want an easy 300 bhp then start with an Sti, new ecu and several other mods to hit 300 easy, 350 with a little patience and 400 at a push.

My Sti v3 using an Sti v8 TMIC hit 407 on the RR (realistically a 380 imho), but the FMIC now on allows the power generated to be available for much much longer when really pushing the car.
