Just checked oil and i seem to have used some. According to the dipstick (no not me ) it's half way in between the 2 little holes. I'm sure it was full when it was last serviced (7000 mile ago), due 30,000 mile service at end of week. Is it normal to use that amount of oil??

Hi,thats where it should be,imprezas don't like the oil full,they tend to burn it off.The amount you've use is about right,as your breather system will draw through a little.

Thats right,more noticeable when running higher boost. You can fit an oil catch tank to catch the oil before it gets back into the intake,there are a few posts on this,but isn't really worth it on a standard car.
