Default Newbie ~ explain tech terms please !!

Hey !

Have been reading through site for the first time and have a few q's !

1) What does an "ecutec" mod involve? A new ecu or just remapping the old one ? How much does it cost ?

2) People talk about Ferodo and Pagit brake pads ? Are they better than
the Subaru pads for "bite" and overall stopping power for (fast) road driving ?

3) Does a "WR" stainless steel exhaust (the one with the oval tailpipe) increase performance ? I f so by how much ?

4) Is it worth fitting a K&N Panel Filter to my 2001 WRX ? how many extra bhp ?

Sorry to chuck it all on to the same thread !!

Cheers !

- an ecutek3 remap involves remapping the existing ecu using software (and license) supplied by ecutek.

2) People talk about Ferodo and Pagit brake pads ? Are they better than
the Subaru pads for "bite" and overall stopping power for (fast) road driving ?

- I still have oem pads fitted but from friends and reading SN, yes they are better. However, some pads perform worse than oe pads when cold, so it depends on your driving habits.

3) Does a "WR" stainless steel exhaust (the one with the oval tailpipe) increase performance ? I f so by how much ?

- Not really, might sound slightly better though.

4) Is it worth fitting a K&N Panel Filter to my 2001 WRX ? how many extra bhp ?

- It's worth it if your planning a few other mods too, like a decat and remap for example.

What are oem pads ? Manufacturers ?

Any extra bhp from the k&n and ecutek ? how much and is the effect on fuel consumption drastic ? And will they improve responsiveness ?

Thanks again. (I pick up the car tomorrow ! )

All points well answered
OEM simply means Original equipment manufacturer, so the ones you would buy from your dealer.
I have a ITG pannel filter, as new for sale, I will take £20 for it delivered if you are interested, thats less than 1/2 price, only done 4.5K and is for new age.
