Default Turbo advice needed

I posted up yesterday about a lack of oomph and it appears my MY00 UK has a dead turbo !

Now I've been quoted a silly proce for a new unit but I could do with some guidance as to what turbo this has but alos what bolt on upgrade options there are. Would a VF34 bolt straight on ?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Oh apparent the wastegate flap has fused to the wastegate port so the rod connecting to it had broken ! According to the garage, well that what they think.

you could get another replacement TD04 for about £50, a VF34 would work well but you would need a remap and a few other bits and bobs to make best use of it.

The rod they are talking about you can see from the top of the turbo if you take off the heat sheild, you will be able to see if it's broken or just come off as mine did tonight!

Ah OK. I've been thinking the chances of the wategate welding itself shut , well thats sounds a bit odd to me ?

well it does get very hot but i cant see it welding shut tbh, it could seize i suppose but even then i'm not sure how it could really, it's not going to get rusty or anything like that so it must just wear out as if it were and perhaps stick? worth looking for yourself though i think, not that hard as long as it's all cold

Yep it was simple the circlip had come off the actuator rod where it meets the wastegate flap. To think somebody could have ended up with a bill for £1500 for an item that costs a few pence !

All sorted now and its back to normal and have also worked out my front droplinks are badly worn hence the poor handling.

excellent, glad you got it fixed, just a circlip eh, not quite the same as a f*cked turbo with a welded shut wastegate!
