Default Aircon re-fill price.

I've just been phoning around to get a price on an aircon re-fill.. I've been told the car probably has an R12 system (identified by the size of the fill valves) and a RS24 (R12 supliment) gas is required, a local place wants to charge £90.. I've never had an aircon system refilled, does that sound fair?

What gas did you guys have? R134a seems to be alot cheaper than the Rs24 plus this is a complete re-fill, we can have R134a but it will probably leak like a bitch. And the retro fit + o'ring treatment is another cost.

Does anyone know of a company in or near Reading that has any R12?

Just a thought, how the hell do you tell which gas it needs? Its right on the change over point..

As you can see there is a large black valve and a little red one..

Its got nothing to do with the type of gas, but does anyone know where I can get an Impreza pressure switch for my a/c system?

The diy stuff works a treat-i brought the kit from halfrauds for £39.99.
I did have a problem with the 1st one i brought, the pressure gauge didnt work unless i kept it pushed it onto the valve constantly, which meant i overcharged it to start with-took it back and got a new set.
Just make sure the gauge shows the pressure rising/falling when the compressor kicks in/shuts off and you should be ok.
The amount of gas in the kits should be enough for several recharges.

Its also worth adding that the kits dont just inject gas(r134a), they also have lubricant and leaksealer in them.

The place i used to go to with my previous cars charged me £40, and that was just for a regas-no sealant/lube!

Gary.
