had this happened to me on my STI it WAS the MAF sensor. especially in higher gears, if you put your foot down it will go pop and loose power than come back in. but even when the power does come in it should be alot slower than it used to be. at least mine was. no fault codes on ecu and stuff just the maf was going I think

Cheers

Sounds more like fuel cut to me , hitting to much boost in higher gears , what boost are you reaching ? Fuel cut is around 1.2 bar also running with no air filter is not a good idea could be running lean and sucking all sorts into engine .

first things first, your car needs an airfilter. Replace this and It may solve your problem, however there is a good chance you have broke your maf if you have run without a filter for prolonged periods of time.

Running without the filter will allow more air into the engine (and dust, debris etc) so it is probably causing overboost
