Default How are the Wrx's restricted to their different BHP's??

Ok, thanks to 'NinnyBobs' i know know a bit more about my cars spec:

2002 Wrx Bugeye
MY02
TD04 Turbo
225BHp

Now, throughout the Subaru range there are many different models with different BHP outputs and im just wondering how Subaru reastrict them? Is it simply down to the ecu used in each model or what??

I have already spoke to people on how to increase my performance initially without spending much money but am open to any other ideas??

Near future plans:

K&N Panel filter
Decat downpipe
De cat centre section
S/S Backbox
(want to keep the middle box to save a bit of noise!)
Removing the resonator + additional intake mod
Whiteline 22mm adjustable ARB
Hopefully at the end of this a remap would help loads!

Thanks for all the asistance so far!

Mainly turbo and ECU. Most of the time jap imports have more power as standard.
Classic shape UK = 208 -215bhp Depending on year.
Jap Imports. = 236 -276bhp." " " " " " " " " " " " .
Uk closed the power gap by bringing out the P1.
Bugeye import was 250 bhp standard.

Take a look at www.iwoc.co.uk.
