Default Z4 fitment - Tips ?

Howdy ho,
Got a Z4 a couple of weeks ago, birthday tomorrow so the mrs won't let me fit it till tomorrow . I understand the battery should be disconnected, and the ECU unit is located under the passenger seat (94 WRX Import). Does anyone have any tips or advice for fitting this ? Will i really feel the difference ? .
Thanks beforehand for any help provided.

It really is straightforward to fit mate, I'd do an ecu reset as soon as you put it on your car though in case there's any error codes stored on the z4.

I noticed a big difference when i put one in my 93 ra, a lot smoother running and more boost.

The ecu is in the passanger side footwell, not under the seat.

There won't be any error codes and it won't need resetting if it's been off a car for more then about 20 mins.

If upgrading from a U8, W6 or 2C ECU you should see a rise from 11.47psi to 12.7spi. but you should also notice it feel a bit smoother.

Default Z4 ECU

Hi there,

Just got offered a Z4 ECU off a 95 WRX, claiming Boost to 16PSI. I currently have a WRX Wagon Import. Now i Dont know much as im new to this whole thing, but am i right in saying that the Wagons mapping is set to boost higher or earlier that the saloon ? do any of you guys know if this replacement ECU would be beneficial or even work " safely " on an early 94 WRX ( as it was mapped for a 95, is there much difference? )

Cheers

16psi is not standard boost for a Z4, should be 12.7psi.
It won't be suitable for a WRX Wagon due to the wagon running a smaller turbo.
FYI the wgaon runs 10psi dropping to 6.8psi. The saloon runs 11.47psi to redline.

Right, so the saloon is actually set higher on boost anyway ?. Is the Wagon on a TD04 as opposed to a TD05 ?

Can anyone advise me what i can do to acheive the best performance from the Wagon ? is it possible to take over 300BHP without turbo upgrades ect ?

Cheers for the advice !!

Anyone thinking of adding a Z4 onto their saloon i can highly reccomend it. Much much smoother power delivery and you can feel the difference when accelerating.

In short..No.
The TD04 will only allow about 280BHP max.

The best mod would be to get a 2nd hand TD05 and a Z4 ECU. This would take a standard WRX wagon from 220ps to 260ps straight away.

Cheers Scott,

Any ideas what i would exepect to pay for a TD05 second hand ? and what size of compressor would be better suited I.E 16G / 18G ..20 far too expensive !! lol.. for the mo anyhow.

Will the Stock internals fuel pump ect handle this OK or will i need to upgrade ?

16G can be picked up nice and cheap (about £120 - £150). Fuel pump could be changed dependant on mileage. If it's done a few then probably worth changing.
The standard 380cc Injectors will get to to just over 300BHP.

At this stage you are reaching the limit on injectors and TMIC. So they would be the best things to upgrade if you want much more then 300BHP.

Internals should be fine if mapped well....

Cheers Scott, much appreiciated .. ill have a butchers for a 16G then.. are the 440cc injectors the better ones to go for if you intend to keep modding.. i dont know how much over 300BHP it will go after the TD05 is fitted ? .. sorry for my stupidity but what is the TMIC.. im really new to this !! lol

Cheers Again

I personally would go for extra headroom with the 550's considering the TD05-16G is capable of flowing enough air to reach ~350hp in std form especially if you plan to keep on modding

Cheers

550's would be best. 440's will only get you to about 320-330BHP.
I'm running 97% IDC on my 440's at 320BHP.

Are the injectors different from wagon -> sedan?

The grey top injectors on of my JDM 95WRX sedan flow 450cc/min at 43psi.
