Default Will it Go POP!!

My spec list now reads as follows:

MY03WRX
IHI VF24 - turbo
ECUTEK 3
STi TMIC
centre decat
Sports cat downpipe

I haven't done an RR session yet but I reckon I could be looking at 310bhp +

I'm getting bored of the power again...

Have been looking at some new headers as a way of liberating more horses but before I go ahead, have I really taken the standard engine and gearbox to the max reliable operating limits?

I prefer 5spd boxes, so don't really want to go down 6spd route if I can help it.

Am I at the end now do you think, is it time to get an EVO?

I know a lad running 367 bhp on an 03 WRX and nothing has broke.......yet
He has just fitted some new bits and is waiting for another remap then hopefully it will be around 400 bhp but he is prepared to fit a new box when it all explodes

If you prefer 5 speed boxes then no the evo isnt the way to go as the later models both have 6 speed boxes, but there is nothing wrong with the 6 speed box, its a damn sight better than that crappy 5 speed box thats already in there.
As for your power, 310bhp aint a problem, but if you want better power then sell your my03 wrx and get a JDM STi, a much more capable car

so shall I go for the headers then?

Was aware that the EVO had a 6spd, It wouldn't stop me buying one, nor an STi for that matter, I just don't like 6sped boxes, I prefer to ride the torque in 5spd.

Varboy,

Treat yourself to a set of Harvey's ported headers and up-pipe. There are a lot of happy people on this bbs who have

You don't mention and handling/braking mods..?

If these are still standard then spending a little here would help get the most out of your engine mods.

A good handling/brake setup can be as good as 30-50 bhp and you don't need to spend as much as you would think (rear ARB/DL's/springs/geom setup along with decent pads/hoses/fluid). Obviously you can spend more with AP's and adj coilovers, but IMHO the differences would only be appreciable on track.

yes, done all that and totally agree with your comments, you think the Sub handles well until you get the above done and then it is outstanding

Ported headers and map tweak would be a good idea: turbo should spool earlier and pull a bit harder! That's about as far as you'd want to go -especially on the std UK box- I'd imagine. After that things start to get expensive!!

Why get an Evo, you'll only fall foul of the same modding bug with that.

At the end of the day, you have to know when to say "enough already" (unless you're made of money) as 310bhp and similar torque make for a very quick road car, especially with the right handling mods!
