Default Advice please?

I have been trying to identify a droneing noise on the back of my sti uk PPP for the last couple of days, at first i thought it was the diff because it only makes the noise when slowing down between 3000-2000 rpm but today i noticed if i hold the rpm at 2750-3000rpm the noise is very clear then if i put my foot on the clutch it totally disapears this is when the car is not moving so rules out the diff and gearbox any ideas what to look for ?

its either the clutch release bearing, or maybe slightly rattly and loose springs in the clutch friction plate IMO.
