WRX2002 surge power hesitation
hello
I have a WRX 2002, without any modification (66000 km).
When accelerating at full throttle between say 80 and 100% engine seems to sort of surge power then hold back then surge again etc etc. After 5000/5500 rpm, it seems work well.
I found an archive : http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/archive/i...t358165p1.html
but I did not found a precise answer.
Any Idea's.

It could be one of a number of things.
On my car it turned out to be the plugs, but it could have been the coils, the maf or the boost solenoid.
Might be an idea to start at the sol as the thread you linked to covers it.
Then see if you can check the maf by maybe swapping it with someone elses and seeing what happens?
Then have a look at the plugs and coils.
Oh and welcome by the way

Thank's Andis,
Wonderfull, the fisrt answer after only 14 minutes
I have change plug, nothing change in my problem,
I have unplugged O2 sensor, no change,
I have clean airflow sensor, no change,
I have clean solenoid (but not pipe), no change,
I am going to clean all pipes about air pressure regulation.
I have not another solenoid to test.
Perhaps ScoobyNet user "TMO" is remember the problem, he did not respond to email I sent last week !
any ideas ?
thanks again !

ok Fizz
I have try to unplug "MAF" sensor (when engine stopped), but i do not see any change in comportment!
When accelerating around 80 to 100%, from 2500 to 5000 rpm, I have power for 1 seconde, then hold during 1s, and again full power for 1s, and hold, again and again, until i have reach around 5000rpm after, i have full power to 7000rpm.
I hope you understand what I mean, my english is not very good, (I am French).
Thank's

New maf sensor cartridges are less than £100 from BRD. I changed mine anyway just to rule it out. Didn't really make a difference so I guess the old one is probably not too bad.
To check it you need to start the car then disconnect the maf with the engine running. If the engine keeps going then maf needs replacing. I don't think this is a 100% test though, maf can still be faulty even if the engine stops, depends on the degree to which it is worn. It is worth changing anyway for peace of mind because they can cause your engine to run lean resulting in big end failure.
Also check your oil level. If it is too high then it may have caused the solenoid and pipework to be contaminated. You will need to reduce the oil level if it is too high after cleaning the solenoid or it will get contaminated again.
