Engine coolant temperature sender

Does anyone know if the engine coolant temperature senders for all classic models is the same item?

I have one I bought for my MY95 WRX and want to know if I can fit it to my MY98 Type R.

Early CTS has a brown plug, later ones have a grey plug.

IIRC, they changed between Phase1 and 1.5, so i don't think it will be interchangeable
