Question DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A MAF FAULT

Does this sound like a MAF fault.

Hesitating + boost fluctuating slightly at high revs and would only make target boost in top gear. I thought there may have been a boost leak so removed intercooler and checked all pipework - nothing obvious. Put all back together.

Car would sometimes hunt on cold idle but it is now much worse and still has same symptoms as previous. Removed MAF and car stalled immediately.

Car is an MY97 so don't want to really buy a MAF unless it is that as they are bloody expensive. Boost solenoid & plugs replaced recently.

Fitted with an Apexi PFC, any way to check ???

Paul.

Do you have a commander with the pfc? if so what are your maf voltages showing at idle when cold and warm?

if not and you still have the original ecu swap that back go for a short drive and then read the error codes to see what it brings up. Fix the problem then swap back to your pfc

The maf sensor sometimes throws up a fault code if its at fault althought the hunting you describe can be caused by a faulty maf and is a sympton of all the other sensors trying to do its job, but badly. Otherwise it could maybe be an air leak, spray some wd40 around see if it stops the hunting, this will confirm unmetered air.

Don't buy a maf, see if you can borrow one to rule it out and go from there... or try cleaning your one with carb cleaner and giving the ecu a reset.

Jay, I do have the commander.

Is the reading i'm taking the AF-1 reading from the sensor check menu.

If it is, it is reading 1.18 on cold start and drops back to 0.84 on idle.

Is this correct
