Default 93 wrx induction, summer is coming!

On my 93 wrx I have a k&n cone induction kit. I am not sure on how long this has been fitted, so I am wondering if the filter needs cleaning and re-oiling.

I've heard of oil from induction filters causing MAF sensor problems, on later models with a film MAF. Will this become an issue on my car? Is there a way around it? Can the MAF be maintained by cleaning it?

I received the standard air box when I obtained the car from it's previous owner, so if the oiled filter is unsuitable, should I put the original back on instead, with an uprated panel filter? Or is there a decent dry induction cone filter anyone can recommend, with good filtration like a k&n?

Also if sticking with an induction kit, does a driver's side induction scoop solve the cold air feed problem? Or how can the standard 'through the wing' induction be de-restricted?

Any other suggestions on obtaining the most efficient induction possible would also be appreciated.

Regards,

Robin.

Induction kits are a waste of time if you do not have them sealed from the engine bay heat and a cold air feed, but once you've sealed them from the bay heat and fitted a cold feed you may as well have just stuck with the original box and fitted a decent filter?

So what would you do in my situation as detailed above?

I'd fit the standard air box and get a decent filter.

Thanks for the replies guys, looks like the easiest thing to do is revert to the original air box, and get a decent panel filter. And thanks for the link Scott.
