Default Carbon Canistor

Some questions

1, what is it?

2, Do i have one (MY02 WRX)?

3, should it be removed, as i have been told they are very heavy?

4, where is it located?

1) Its a canister full of carbon granuals. It is meant to vent pressure from the fuel tank so I belive? By pushing the fumes thru that carbon granuals its supposed to filter it.

2) Think so, have a look for a large black cylinder near the front drivers wing

3) No real need to remove them, they are not that heavy at all.

I've taken dumps heavier than a charcoal canister

Basically, as above. ALL cars post 1992 have them to stop petrol fumes escaping the fuel tank into the atmosphere, and a solonoid opens during cruising to vent collected vapour from the canister into the inlet tract.

Okay thanks guys, so really only one of those mods that only get done when you go serious with weight loss.

I had to remove mine to make space for a remote PS reservoir. cant say i notice any smells really. rather oddly i seem to be able to get a bit more petrol in the tank though
