I check the oil just about weekly and for the last 4-5 months since it was last changed, it hasn't moved at all, always been bang on the full mark.
I checked it an hour or so ago and the level is well past the full mark by nearly an inch.

The oil doesn't look/smell any different (i.e, not contaminated in any way with any other substance) and I haven't added any.
The car's on the usual level ground that I check it on every time.

Any ideas or what could cause this and any potential problems it could cause?. I don't have any cats, so nothing like that to damage.

Let it settle for an hour or so and check it again, might just be the tube is coated with oil.
