Exclamation MOT Help Urgent Please!

Hello all

My 1998 WRX STi V4 Failed its MOT on emissions yesterday - fast idle, CO & HC. I have had it checked over by an auto electrician and the engine is spot on with no sensor faults etc.

The car has a de-cat downpipe fitted (before I bought it so I don't have the standard part) and I was wondering if this would be the problem, I assumed the main cat would suffice but maybe this could be knackered too (slight metallic rattle under load at low revs.

Has anybody had similar MOT probs with the same mods on an sti?

Also I know its a long shot but does anyone have a standard cat and downpipe with cat I could borrow or buy so I can get it through it's MOT?

I am based in the Midlands if anyone can help me.

I need to get the cart back to the MOT station by monday otherwise its another £38!

Adding to the complications and stress is my wife is 3 days overdue to give birth and I will have to take her to the hospital in an untaxed car!

Cheers

Jim

PS If anyone can help me my number is 07901 536 682 as i will be away from the computer most of the day.

how badly did it fail???
If you make sure the car is red hot before the test, then a centre cat is usally good enough from what I have read

Get the cat as hot as you can before taking it back ( they only start working around 400 deg, ) failing that there are some of the scooby specialists that will fit a cat for the mot for a fee then remove it afterwards, but red hot should do it ( has done on mine)
Have a good one

The car doesn't have a centre cat, as it's an import, so it's completely without a cat right now.

Jim, it might be worth asking David at API or Pavlo (zen performance) if they have a catted centre section they could fit/you could borrow for the short term....

Hi

Thanks for all the replies, found a downpipe with cat and a centre cat off ebay for £75, the guy said it passed the mot on his car 6 weeks before he took it off so fingers crossed it should pass.

Will give it a good warm up before it goes in aswell
