Default Splitting turbo for porting WG..?

Got a VF35 on it's way for my WRX and plan on porting WG myself, however, is removing exhaust housing as simple as undoing centre band and separating..?

Are there any potential problems..? Have heard they can be seized together quite well..!

Don't fancy the US way of porting the unit whole and cleaning up with a magnetic wand..!

Cheers,
J

yes mate just undo the band and give it some taps with a hammer and it should come apart.

I havnt ported it yet,

Jasonius, I have found some good info on the net, what do you intend to do to the VF35?

I've done this on a TD05, I found soaking in WD40 overnight followed by a fresh razor blade round the joint to cut through any rust did the trick with a few light taps from a flathead screwdriver to break the seal.

Also porting here http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/578070/ShowPost.aspx

Dremel.......... you must have a lot of time on your hands ???

If you don't have access to a die grinder, use an electric drill, flexi extension, and a tungston carbide bur, and it will take minutes. A Dremel will take hours.

Just blend in for the up pipe, and don't over do the WG. VF turbo's really shouldn't need the WG ported on a 2.0lt, since that's what they were designed for, and fitted as standard !

That's what I wondered, but a LOT of people have said it happens..! Strange, could be one or two people have had probs and as usual SN makes it gospel..! I'm doing mine before fitting as I don't won't to remove it afterwards..IYSWIM..?

VF35 will often boost creep with 3" exhaust and standard headers, 1.6 bar at 7000rpm isn't unknown on UK STIs with a well flowing exhaust in place of standard or PPP system.

Thanks Paul, not seen it myself, but then I don't get to see much of the smaller stuff these days.

I see the logic, but with such a powerful tool that also means it takes seconds to make a mistake !!!!!

and as you say "dont over do it"

I have time, no rush, all the performance bits are making a nice display in the garage.

I have a full decat, and for the sake of a little porting / polishing, its worth doing

Sorry to hijack your thread, but, I've got a TD05 which hits 1.0 bar, then creeps up to fuel cut. If I ported the WG would this eliminate the boost creep, or do I really need a remap?

Sorry - thanks!!!!

Hot side should be easier to remove than the cold...
