Default Scooby ECU ?

I have a UK ECU that I purchased with a Scooby ECU/VOS chip fitted. I tried to run this in my 94 WRX and the car won't start, however it will start and run with the J1 resistor conected. Is there something obvious i'm missing or is the chip maybe a dud ?

Thanks

if it's a single chip, make sure it's in the right way round and all the pins are in the socket i.e not bent.

With the yellow connector positioned at the top, the chip will be in the bottom right of the board. The indent/pip on the chip should be on the lefthand short edge of the chip.

Thanks Scott, the indent is positioned to the left. Bugger I was hoping it was going to be that simple

It may of been fried with static.
I could check it on on the programmer to see if it will read/checksum. But that's not a 100% guarantee that it's healthy (although normally a pretty good test).
