Quick Oil Question.
Hi all,
My car has recently been serviced at Prosport using Shell Helix 10W-40 Semi Synthetic. I need to top the oil up, but I cant find any Shell Helix 10W-40 Semi Synthetic anywhere (I've tried 5 Shell petrol stations, and they only have fully synthetic), and Prosport is a bit of a way to go just to buy a litre of oil. So, can I top it up with Shell Helix 10W-40 Fully Synthetic, or am I better off topping up with another quality brand of 10W-40 semi synth? Will either of these options cause me any problems?
Don't want to get into a discussion about what oil is best - if Prosport reckon 10W-40 semi synth is correct for my car, I'm happy to go with that, but I just want to know about compatibilities between different brands and between semi and fully synthetic. I've always had old cars before this one and done my own servicing so I've always had some spare after an oil change - never had to consider 'mixing' oils before.
Car didn't use much oil prior to the service, so I'm presuming it's been a little lower than I'd like since the service.
Cheers,
Dave.
