Does the bumpsteer mod damage the rack ?

Since its being lowered by the shims, will this damage the rack, putting more wear/strain onto it, causing creaking ?

No.
Powerstation would never do such a mod if the parts were anywhere near being damaged.

In the 1980's Porsche tuners did the same trick to 911's to straighten-out the front end, so nothing new.

Mine has been diagnosed, the creaking is coming from within the rack itself. cost of repair £750+vat new rack or £350+vat exchange unit from subaru dealer

I'm going to live with it for the time being, more important items to replace at the moment

if it is shimmed properly it should not be a problem

i did my own bumpsteer mod by 4mm (i think, did it so long ago)
and i have had no problems with my rack (about 2 years ago i think?)
