engine out from bottom ?
Hi All,
I recently had a prang in my 97 WRX. Shell is no good, but I have purchased a 1.8 GL AWD and im going to attempt to swap everything over.
I assume im going to have to transfer all suspension, breaking systems etc .. so is it possible to take the engine&gearbox out of both with front suspension intact by droping it out the bottom ?
Cheers all
Pete

Dropping the engine subframe or 'clip' as the American's would say releases the suspension to if you try hard enough. You would need a ramp i think to get it all off, but would save a lot of work.
Would like to see it done.
It is how the factory would have assembled the car when new.
My 911 engine/box drops out from the bottom, you have to get the shell about 1000mm up in the air (using the engine hoist) and lower the unit down.
Surprisingly easy, but 911's are! (compared to an Impreza)
Graham.

I agree with the above.. Unbolt the subframe, strut tops, gearbox, etc and lift the shell OFF the engine, do the same on the GL and play swapsies!
You'll probably need the rear diff to as I'm sure the ratios will differ.
