Default what type of petrol?

Ive just read on another impreza site that prolonged use of regular unleaded (95 RON) can damage the engine and 97 RON should be used more often. I was always under the impression 97 RON was to boost performance and not necessarily a requirement. Am i gonna wreck my engine by saving a few quid on juice? Help please!!

It'll be fine on 95 ron,Although as you've stated 97,98 or 99 ron will maybe give it a little more punch. The uk wrx is set up to run ok on the 95 stuff. Its the imports or sti's that a higher grade is recommended.

Paying out a little extra for 97+ RON is worth considering, especially during the warmer months. You also benefit from the cleaning agents they include, which help keep your inlet valve heads clear of carbon build up, etc.

I'd steer clear of BP Ultimate though - did some mapping on a mates r33 once and halfway through we refueled with Ultimate. On the same maps the car was detting everywhere! ...ok, maybe that's an exaggeration, - I guess it was more like borderline det since I was listening with det-cans.

Shell Optimax or Tescos 99RON are worth trying.
