Default bottom pulley common problem ?

was driving down clay bank a few days ago. the battery light came on and lost power steering. i got home though and checked the engine, as i thought the belts had came off. but the bottom pulley had rattled loose. i tightened it up and went for a meal with the missus at blakey ridge. on the way back it happened again. i drove through the moors with no lights and got home. best part of 30 miles just on the battery ! the pulley was totally off caught on the radiator ( luckily). on closer in spection ive found the woodruff key slightly worn and the inside of the pulley has been totally bored out by the key. is this a coomon problem with gc8's and how easy is it to change the woodruff key?

Does happen, but I presume down to not being torqued correctly in the first place..
