My 2.33 just arrived from them today
It was well cheaper than getting one built over here and you know that's all they do all day long so they know their stuff.
As for your questions.....
Whats there service like? Ace. No stupid question went unanswered and Ron replied to every e-mail personally.
Turn up on time? Was a few days late but he wrote ahead of time to say they were having problems due to staff illness.
Any hidden costs? Nope. Exactly what he quoted for, even managed to source arp studs and cometic gaskets on the cheap for me.
Engines any good? Time will tell.
Drop him and e-mail, he's very approachable. I normally like to look someone in the eye before I hand over a couple of thou but he never gave me any cause for concern.
Mention Colin and the stage 4 build and see what he thinks of his customers tho.

I'd recommend Ron, bought about 10 from him, mainly stage 3s and 1x stage 4 (2.33) Always very heplful. Turned up on time, no issues & cheap shipping via him.
Give him a call.
Now the 2.5 is over here offically if might be cheaper to stay within the UK, ask around and check out NASIOC for other deals, I think Gruppe-S are doing something at the moment.

Typicly an EJ22T (closed deck 2.2 with oil squirters)
It comes from a USDM Legacy Turbo from the late 80's early 90's
You used to be able to buy brand new short engines from Subaru USA, but the foundry has stopped casting the blocks...so now you have to join the bidding war for the 2nd hand blocks and the odd new ones that pop up from time to time.
It is also possible to have a closed deck EJ20T block relinered to around the 100mm bore mark to make up a 2.33/2.35 and these are just as strong. Mikee's 2.2 from last year was based on one of these re-linered blocks, and so was the engine in the Lateral Performance car. As you might have guessed Mr. Lateral can sort this out if required

Thanks Tim, I knew that was usually the case, it just seemed the price they are quoteing seemed very low. Also, I was wondering about the availability of new ej22t blocks. The price just seems too good to be true.

Bit busy at work at the mo to type up a detailed responce but will send one out tonight to any interested parties.
Graham, you're right about Axis (and Crawford etc) no longer offering ej22t conversions but I found a place in the states (after weeks searching the net)that has some brand new ones in stock.

I brought my 2.5 (stage 2) from ron at axis It has done 17000 miles so far and I am still very happy, price and service are very hard to beat even the shipping was very reasonable/fast also with some supporting mods it will turn your scoob into an evo eater.

I agree 100 percent ,but if your engine is in bits a rebuild with steel internals is very pricey. also there are some very, very quick evos out there and they are far more reliable at similar power levels than the ej 20, the other 25 percent displacement of the 2.5 is very usefull in gaining the extra power/torque without running silly boost levels and compromising reliability.

Ron, just a couple of things...
500 Euro HP is more than the smaller horses being banded about in the States
Andy (as in Mr. Forrest) uses a Crawford built 2.33, the one that was similar to your Stage 4, he did the rest himself, pretty much for the price of a Cottage Pie, rather than a Summer cottage
If I had bitten the bullet when I was collecting all the parts together for my build and had gone for one of your or Quirt's short engines I wouldn't have speant much more than I already have. Granted I too do a lot of the work myself, but I'm not quite as skilled as Andy. However including buying a stage 4 engine (for argument's sake) I would have assembled an engine set up (ie the fully built engine, ported heads, uprated valve train, wild cams, custom exhaust, induction, rotated Garrett turbo, ecu...basically the whole cabodle) with the potential to be as capable as Andy's (I'm being careful here, he was a wooden spoon and isn't affraid to use it) for around 12k GBP. As I understand it RCMS are charging somone around 25k GBP including a gearbox to take it to build someone something similar but based on a 2 litre like the Team ICE car, all in and up and running...not quite as expensive as a Summer Cottage here in the UK, more the price of a brand new Sti Type UK

I do have some pics of the rods, piston and crank from Axis GB if people are interested.
Ron also sorted the long list of extras, ie. pumps, belts, tensioners etc for a very good price
