Engine knock?????
Av Just put my 95 wrx import back on the road so ah can have a bit play.
It has had a knock around the 3000 rpm mark since ah bought it. But its really starting to get on my t#ts. Loads of different people have said different things (big ends, piston slap even a bearing on the turbo) but still no further forward. The knock sounds like top end from driver side but av been told it is quite rare to have top end knock. av got a set of heads with solid lifters which are mint but ah don't what to take the lump out to find its somthing else.
Last week ah took the ecu out for the fist time to put my new chip in and there was a prova board in the spare ic socket could this be the problem due to detination. Any scoobie boffins in the north east.
Cheers Cooky.wrx

Knock or rattle?, the turbo heatshield rattles at certian revs if it is damaged, they tend to fracture and it is not easy to tell.
It is on the drivers side.

The heatshield is a common problem, i have never had one go but there has been a few threads about in on sn so worth a search through.
From memory it only rattles at certain revs and goes away until back to those revs if you see what i mean.
Get a dealership or a good garage/specialist to look at it if you are not able to but i would put money on it being the heatshield from what you say.
the shields are a few pounds to buy, £ 7.50 from memory.
