Question my98 ticking noise when throttle pressed?

Hi all,
I have just (last week) purchased my first scoob! Its an S reg 98 uk model turbo 2000 awd. 94000 miles with full service history. Cant fault the car its great!! I have noticed tho that whenever i press the throttle you can hear a ticking noise? it sounds like its coming from down by my right foot somewhere. sounds like a relay clicking quite fast? Is this something to do with with the fuel injection? I guess this cause as soon as you take your foot off the throttle it stops. The car runs great so I'm assuming its not a problem but since i've noticed it I can't help listening to it as i'm driving and wondering?? Excuse my ignorance....but hey, i'm new!!!!
Thanks!!

might be the boost solenoid clicking - take it off and give it a good cleaning with WD40 or Carb cleaner. It is the lue thing located in the engine bay just in front of the strut on the drivers side.

do a search on here for cleaning boost solenoid for full instructions.

Quite often the rubbers holding the boost solenoid panel go hard and transmit the noise that the solenoid naturally makes, into the bodywork. This can be cured by sometimes taking out the little spacer tubes inside the rubber mounts and just tightening the bolts so the rubber squashes a bit more. Thus giving the insulation a chance to work.

Mine is also a 98 model. I was listening today, when it first runs for about 5 minutes, if you just touch the throttle gently, the revs dont pick up by much more than 200rpm but you can hear a loud ticking, and it doesnt rise with the engine speed.as soon as you let the throttle go its gone!!
I dont seem to be able to hear it when the engine is warmed right up!
Can this really be the solenoid??

See my post immediately above yours. The answer is YES it could be. Try loosening the bolts that hold the boost control solenoid [ and others ] so that it floats rather more on the rubbers and see what happens.

EXCELLENT!!!
i did just that, and to be honest i was VERY doubtful this could be it, but HOLY CRAPONASTICK! the noise is gone!!!

Im amazed that it could be so damn loud! i removed the center bush in the rubbers, and bolted it back up, and this morning, NO NOISE!!
thanks very much!
