My STI 04 developed a knocking/banging at the rear. We took in into the Cheltenham dealer who replaced the diff under warranty. Two weeks later it still knocks/bangs particularly at slower speeds and when going very slowly in reverse. We took it back to the dealer today who told us that it was the brakes and that this level of noise was common for this car. Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks.

how about suspension strutts, mine failed ater 5 months on a MY05 STI

I can't believe Subaru STILL have this issue with the strutts.

This has been ongoing since the MY02 cars..

Thanks for your help. I will go back to the dealer and bug them to replace the strutts.

You,ll find its the rear struts mine were changed at about 20k and my brothers were changed at 14k

Yip - its your strutts - make sure they replace both of them at the same time and not one at a time like they did with me - if they only replace one you will be back with the other giving problems in a couple of weeks. Subaru warranty are suppose to replace 2 at a time anyway.
