Default Humming sound from WRX

Got a bit of a problem i think.

WRX 2003

When im driving along i can hear some sort of Huming /whinning sound and when going along i can still hear it.
Now the main dealer said its becuase it has straight cut gears???????

I thought maybe wheel bearing or Diff as the sound slows down as i slow the car down

Any ideas any one, you help would be great.

Also got a Clonk noise when i revers and had it when going up the driveway to, any ideas

The humming noise is most probably the tyres. Mine does it when the rears wear a bit, and I thought it was the rear wheel bearings. Dealer said it was fine , when I had it serviced, and it disapeared when I had new tyres fitted. the clonk could be the brake pads moving in the calipers.
