smoke from engine bay 95 wrx wagon
I have smoke coming from the engine bay directly underneath the water tank. first i thought it was coolant burning off, from when my tank sprung a leek. but its been ages now, and it only seems to hapen when I rag it.

i checked the ps fluid level, cold. its the same as the day i bought it.
I think its an old problem because the engine bay looks like it was covered in soot which was cleaned away before it was sold to me.

You would be surprised about the power steering level. Even when you can see the fluid in the reservioir and it is leaving a mark on the dipstick, you would be surprised how much you can put in without it actually appearing to increase the volume. It is definately something to check.
Also check your radiator sides as these tend to crack (first hand experience of this haven't I Simon!! ) These may look okay, but under pressure (ie when car is being ragged) more water is flowing through the engine and it tends to come out of these cracks (onto your engine and basically anywhere in the engine bay it can spray to)
