to make a water/air intercooler work properly, requires more money than a half decent FMIC intercooler. Most installations have radiators that are far too small, with small heat exchangers on the engine, insufficient pump flow and far too small a pipe size.

I just changed to fmic last year, mainly because I couldn't get the bonnet shut after fitting a bigger turbo under the I/C ..lol.... the big TMIC was still doing the job fine at 550+bhp
I used to run a charge cooler on my RA at 440bhp, don't underestimate the size of water rad you need if doing track work, I only ran 6 laps max per session as the circulating water temp was rising steadily.
Decent FMIC's are available cheap nowadays making CC's not really worth the hassle.

I had big hopes for charge coolers but these were dashed in real world experience. Pretty good from a cold start until you start the continuous WOT.
To come to this conclusion involved ambient temp sensor and throttle body temp measurement.
Quality FMICs are available for New Age and Classic for around £400 that will perform at 2 deg C over ambient, in the cruise up to 4,500 rpm continuous, and this can be improved on with a little further effort.
For me, that has to be the way to go.

Andy.F/Harvey.
Thanks for the info, all taken onboard.
The said mod would only be used on a hillclimb car, there for the run time will be very short, up to a max of 2mins,!!, having already got my hands on over 50% of the hardware needed for this project at nill cost with the other 50% likely to be of the same, and the need to be different, keep a eye on the projects thread..
