Unhappy

The front & rear screens of my 96 5door mist up a lot when parked in the sun and ice forms inside in winter. Have looked for leaks but can't find any obvious wet patches under carpets etc. Anyone got any ideas (no I haven't got AC)

Francis

What I do in damp conditions is put the heater on full blast for the last 5 mins of a journey with the rear windows open - blow some of that water out! Helps to an extent, but doesn't completely alleviate the problem, er, feature?

Best of luck,

A common cause of misting up is to have the heating/ventilation system set to "recirculate" rather than letting the external air come in through the vents.

Question

Are you sure the re-circ isn't switched on or stuck on?

This re-circulates the cabin air, and all the associated moisture will give the simptoms you describe. Does the blower appear to draw in cool air from outside or stale warm air from inside?

If the re-circ is turned on in my WRX it mists up in no time at all. Might be an idea to check this out.

Thanks guys,

Re-circ seems to be working OK - looks like I'll have to save up the pennies for a later model with AC.

Cheers

francis, have you checked that you have not got water collecting in the spare tyre well and the voids at either side of boot area(not sure if its the same as the saloon) as my MY00 saloon leaked past the rubber boot seal and collected in these areas. I got a bit sus when it seemed to mist up more than usual and the boot mat got damp.

Francis,
you can reduce misting if you spray the inside of the window with special anti-mist sprays. They seem to work quite nicely.

Ray - I checked the boot/wells out - seemed dry. Good suggestion though. Looks like I'll just have to stop the heavy breathing!

dmel - I'll give the anti-mist fluid a try as winter is coming.

Thanks for the suggestions.
