Default New engine - running in advice please

After my engine rebuild im currently running the scoob in at a 3000rpm max, and staying off boost.
How long do I do this for, when do I step up to 4000rpm, then 5000, and for how long etc? plus when do I do the first oil change?
Im currently on 654 miles since the rebuild and on the first lot of oil.

(MY01 bugeye WRX if thats needed)

cheers

Cliff

When I had my rebuild MY93, I was told 1000 miles, no boost amd below 4000 revs, after this had an oil change and was away from there

That is what I was told when I bought my bugeye new. Some items I have seen say to do the run-in on ORDINARY mineral oil not synthetic. Supposidly this is to bed the rings in properly. Some say leave the mineral oil in for longer than 1000 miles. Who knows I ran mine in for 1000 miles in a week then onto fully synthetic, I am using no oil and car goes like a bat out of hell. I must admit once the 1000 miles were done I upped the rev limit to 5000 for another 500 miles then let rip good style for the next 20,000+ miles. I think if the car is driven enthusiasticaly there is no problem. That seems to be the case with mine. But reading all the articles that are out ther.

Semi-synthetic oil for about 500 miles, light load, no problem with light boost and revs up to 4000 rpm or thereabouts. At all costs avoid the engine labouring ie. high gear, low revs, wide throttle.
Oil change to semi-synthetic again for another 1000-1500 miles building up the revs with more boost, say 75% of total boost and rev limit.
On to fully synthetic, 10 40 or similar during the Winter and build up the revs and boost over the next 500 miles to maximum.

My first engine i ran in for 2000 miles on semy synthetic. Lasted for 20.000 mile and was killed by wrong and too hot oil. power was 400bhp and it used a half a liter on 800 mile.

Last engine: used mineral oil for 600mile and filled her up with motul afterwards, not reving higher as 4000rpm until 400 mile and then building it up untill redline. Not using any oil since and running happy for 6000mile allready and making 420+bhp
