Default CEL has come on - HELP!

Some background information.....

I had removed my centre cat and bb for a magnex system a few months ago, along with the fuel pump (now Walbro), air filter (now GREEN panel filter).

I then had an ecutek remap and was happy with the results.

I normally fill up with Texaco SUL but on one occasion in December I topped up with Esso SUL, putting in about 3/4 tank.

A day later the CEL light started flashing so I drove home slowly and took my car back to get the error log and map re-checked. No obvious problems and no error in the log. The map was reconfigured slightly and the results were even marginally better.

The CEL light has not come back on since.

However, this morning I needed to fill up and couldn't get to my usual Texaco, (fuel light was on) so I went to the same Esso garage as last time and filled up with 52 litres of SUL.

About 5 miles down the road I opened her up and the CEL light came on immediately but this time constant and has stayed on even after turning the ignition off for a minute or so.

Can anyone advise what could be wrong, I realise it could be a million and one things but it seems a bit coincidental with the Esso fuel?

Is this the sort of situation that could occurr if I was putting 95ron into a car mapped for 97ron? (ie. garage on the fiddle)?

Normally if cel light comes on and stays on it means emission fault, i.e. catylist performing below threashhold.

But it could be coincedence that a sensor has gone open/short circuit or out of range.

With sensor out of range though if you go through 3x drive cycles and it does not go out of range during these cycles it will go out.

Try letting car cool down for hour then start and drive gently till warm for a few miles, do this procedure 3 times.

If its not emission fault it will go out and log it as historic fault code in ecu memory.

If your maf sesnsor has not been scaled or you overrevved slightly this will show up to the ecu as too much air and put light on.

Hope this helps Jase.

Went out about an hour ago, turned on the ignition and the CEL is off now

Went out for a drive, let the engine warm up properly then gave it some stick in all gears. Car went well, no problems and most importantly, no CEL.

I'll keep an eye on it, perhaps one of two things has occurred.

1) Esso contains an additive that causes the emissions sensor to report a problem
2) The garage are filling their SUL tanks with normal UL.

Panic over....for now.

I have an intermittent CEL which the SECS shows as a Camshaft circuit malfunction which goes after about 5 starts of the engine....

P0360 seems to ring a bell

MY01 / MY02 ECU being a bit over entheusiastic I gather !!

Im in Paignton near Torquay, prob a bit far for you.

My Subaru dealer is pretty helpfull with things like this though, your local one could problely put there code reader on for a few quid.

If you get codes post them and im sure i put you in right direction for diagnostics.

Ok, thanks Jase.

I've decided to get my next service done by Subaru and was planning to drop in Monday morning to book it in so I'll get them to hook it up while I'm there (unless they ask for a rediculous amount of ££).

I'll let you know the code if they can get me one.

Thanks,
Rich.
