Default Full de-cat, worth it or not??

everybody!

Thinking about doing this nearer the summertime on my 1995 WRX. I already have a full Blitz system & a remapped ecu chip running 1.1 bar. I'm a bit worried about losing back pressure & low down torque if I fit a de-cat downpipe. Do you lose the low end torque power when the Impreza is fully de-catted?

If anything you'll gain it and your turbo will spool up quicker, or so i've been told

Cheers for your reply mate,
Are such gains of 30 brake really possible from a de-cat downpipe?
Any idea of how much torque is increased by also?

Be careful about claimed gains!

There ARE gains to be had, but bolting on 30bhp with a decat i doubt that would do it.
The car will however be more responsive, freer running, sound better and all that so it 'feels' like 30 bhp!

I noticed a marked improvement in mine, but not 30 bhp. Maybe a sharper 10?

I was under the impression that back pressure is undesirable in a turbo car as it impeeds the turbo spinning... Maybe I'm talking out of my bottom..

Hmm, 30 does seem a bit unlikely though, usually the ECU will try and add more fuel in response the the greater air flow to keep things within paramaters. If you have a Jap import, do you also have a Knocklink? Running a full decat on the std fuel map for 100ron may be a bit dicey?

Ask an expert tuner!

I was told to expect an increase of 30 bhp from a full decat ,the salesman certainly sold it to me.

It actually increased by 20 bhp and about 15 lb ft torque, still a good increase though. I would say that if the claims sound too good to be true , then they probably are.

No doubting the Impreza is a car that responds very well to a de-cat pipe.

I've de-catted many jap performance cars and apart from the RX7 (which is madness) the Impreza's performance increase is the best.

It's allways better safe than sorry though and I'd deffinately reccomend a knocklink. The classic wrx's are pretty good (safe with just this mod) though usually.

What about decatting a newage (bugeye to be precise). I'm planning to do mine sometime this year, including the up and down pipes.

I already have the car ecutek remapped so I'll obviously get Powerstation to remap again when they change the pipes. Anything else need to be considered (including the need for a knocklink)?

Thanks.

Just the Knocklink mate, you should really have one of the car now, since you're running a partial decat and remap (although with a good map, it should be redundant, but pays as a safety precaution) and that's about it. Of course, you will fail the MOT. I'd recommend you consider a sports cat in the DP. Problem solved. Oh, and if you haven't already, a Samco intercooler hose set- the std one can split under increased boost pressure.

Scoobyworld have a deal on at the mo for the Ninja sports cat DP for £299 FANTASTIC DEAL. Although its only for classic's at the moment, but apparently, the new age one is coming soon.

H&S also have a group buy on at the moment, including sports cat DPs.

Hope that helps.
