Default MY03 STI PPP whining from rear

Had car two weeks now and took my car back to dealer to have a listen to a noise coming from the back somewhere the noise sounds like a bearing worn and is most noticable at around 40mph it dont get any louder the faster you go.

Dealer said that it a common noise from STI, is it???

how can I quieten it down different oil?? sound proofing??

From what I have read this is a warranty job. Something to do with the suspension. If you do a search on the general forum you should see this topic has come up a few times. luckily I havn't come across this problem on my 03 STi.

done a search and it seems it could be something to do with a dynamic damper which is attached to the subframe and rear diff.

its done under warranty apparantly.

Has anyone had this mod and did it cure it?

spoke to Subaru Customer Service guy today, he said that he was not aware of a problem that would cause this, he suggested that I take it to the nearest dealer to me and arange for the to investigate the noise on a load bearing rolling road to eliminate tyre noise and do a stethescope test on all the drive comonents to check for bearing joint and diff noise and it would be rectified on warranty.

HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF INVESTIGATION TAKEN PLACE, AND ARE SUBARU DEALER SERVICE CENTRES ANBLE TO DO THIS?????

No,
Three years ago I took my MY02 STI back to the dealers for them to listen to a whining noise at about 3X mph.
They said that it sounded normal, and I havent heard it since.

.......apart from that rear wheel bearing they changed under warrenty last year for no apparant reason.....
