Default When do CEL codes clear????

Right, managed to get the effin knock sensor in place (plug need to be on left when looking from front of the car) and it is nipped up. Connected the test leads and it is still flashing the same error code?

Don't want to put it back together if this sensor is duff as well, any suggestions as to when the code will clear? Does the engine need to be started? (currently a bunch of pipework and the intercooler aren't connected)

Any tips greatfully received.

It's a MY98 and I connected the black and the green lead turned on the ignition and the CEL is still showing the error code. Haven't started the engine cos most of it is in bits!
