Hello Chaps,

My Cat has decided to rust away... (95 WRX single cat on downpipe) What i want to do is get a decat, at the moment my system is standard. I am running optimax with octane booster to meet 100ron to keep it to Japanese standard.

In the long run i want to map it, but for now will i be able to run a decat system without too many problems? or just a decat on a standard system?

Any advice will be great.

i did for over a year no problem but i could have just been lucky ?

 

to be honest I did this for a few months on my 93wrx with u8 ecu. The only difference was the best petrol I used was esso 97, and quite often would use morrisons normal unleaded (due to convienience), no octane booster was used, and the car was used as a daily driver, including some spirited driving as well. I never saw over the 2nd green knocklink light. Again though I could have been lucky.

Got it mapped now though with a power fc!

My '95 WRX has done 55k miles on Optimax (and now Tesco99) only, with a Magnex full decat system and PFR7B plugs, with no apparent problems. Don't have a knocklink, but it's been fine and is in rude good health with 115k on the clock now.

Thanks chaps. think i will just do it. the car is only used weekends. In time will def go for the Apexi. Just can't find cash for everything at once!
